A standard upright piano weighs between 180 and 320 kilograms. A concert grand can push past 500. Distribute that weight wrong on a corner or down a step, and you’re looking at warped soundboards, dislodged action mechanisms, structural splits in the casework — repairs that can run into the thousands.
